AWARDS

The "On-The-Roof" Gang (OTRG) has, for a number of years, sponsored a set of awards bestowed upon those two nominees deemed by the Naval Security Group Awards Board and the Commander, Naval Security Group, to have been the outstanding Navy and Marine Corps cryptologists for the year. The winners are those men and women who have been nominated by their commanding officers and whose records reflect them as having demonstrated singular initiative, resourcefulness and dedication to duty in cryptologic operations over an extended period of time.

Since 1988 the NCVA has sponsored a parallel set of annual awards, bestowed on two active duty men or women, one Navy and one Marine Corps, who best exemplify excellence in the performance of cryptologic support functions. Again, nominations by the commanding officers are reviewed and final selections are made by the Commander, Naval Security Group. Starting with the 1999 award year, a member of the Naval Reserve Security Group (NRSG) will be selected for recognition of their excellence in support of the cryptologic functions. The NRSG member is held to the same standards of excellence as their active duty constituents. Nominations by the commanding officer are reviewed and final selections are made by the Commander NRSG.

Each winner of the OTRG or NCVA award is honored with a Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal from the Commander, Naval Security Group, a letter of congratulations from the Executive Director, NCVA, the presentation of a unique and distinguished personal plaque, a three year membership in NCVA, and an appropriate awards ceremony at his or her current duty station. In addition, the name of each winner is inscribed on permanent plaques mounted on the Headquarters Naval Security Group Command Quarterdeck located at Building OPS3 at Fort George G. Meade, Maryland.

Beginning with the 1993 competition, the NCVA has been administering the purchase of the personal plaques which will be presented to both the OTRG and NCVA winners.
